UK Chamber of Shipping

The Chamber of Shipping has appointed Angus Frew as chief executive. This is a new position within the Chamber. The chief executive’s tasks will include reducing costs and/or increasing revenue, developing an ongoing strategy for the Chamber, and corporate governance. The director-general will retain responsibilty for political and communication activities, including leading key campaigns.

Frew will be tasked with leading and managing a review and transformation process to ensure the Chamber is equipped to meet the challenges of the long-term future and to deliver ‘value for money’ for member companies. “This appointment responds to the same exceptional pressures that all businesses are facing during the economic downturn,” said Jesper Kjaedegaard, Chamber president. “Our intention is both to plan – innovatively – for the future and to maintain the current strong policy and lobbying capability, which is the Chamber’s trade-mark product for its members.”

“Angus Frew will lead this transformation process and his appointment will allow Mark Brownrigg, the director-general, to continue to focus on policy and communications activity during the change process.”

Frew is the former president and ceo of GE SeaCo, a container leasing company. In this capacity, he also served as chairman of the Institute of International Container Lessors and a director of the Container Owners’ Association.
